Pre – heat oven to 220 °C.
Grease a baking sheet with butter and keep aside.
Take a large bowl. Sift self – rising flour in it. Add butter to the flour.
Use your fingers or a fork and mix the butter and flour. You’ll need to rub the butter into the flour until it resembles fine breadcrumb like texture.
Mix in chocolate chips and sugar to the mixture. Add enough milk to form into soft dough.
Dust your working surface with flour. Work the dough for about 1 to 2 minutes. Roll the dough into 5 x 5 square. Cut the square into 9 equal squares.
Place the cut squares, spaced well apart, on the greased baking sheet. Brush the tops with a little milk so that they don’t dry out.
Bake in a pre – heated oven for about 10 – 12 minutes, until risen and slightly golden on top.
Enjoy with any jam or syrup of your choice.
