“Bhakhar” also known as “Bhakhri” is a flat Indian Bread. This particular Indian bread is quite a popular meal among Maharashtrian people and is usually enjoyed with “Zunka”. “Bhakhar” is made from Jowar/ Millet flour. Millet is rich in potassium and phosphorous and also has good amount of calcium, iron and fiber in it. This makes it super nutritious and good for digestive system. Try to make it a habit to enjoy this healthy delight as a part of our daily meal.

½ Jowar flour/ Millet flour plus extra to roll
½ tsp salt
1 tsp oil
Take a bowl and combine salt, oil and Jowar flour in it. Take little water at a time to knead into a soft dough.

Use pressure of your hands to work the dough for about 4 to 5 minutes. This will make dough smooth and help in getting soft rotis.

Simultaneously keep tawa or a flat griddle to heat. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.

Work with one portion at a time. Dust your working surface with enough flour and roll the dough portion into 5 “ diameter circle.
(The flour is a bit tricky to work with. The circle might tear if the dough is not soft enough. Sprinkle some water and knead the dough properly to get a perfect circle)

Gently transfer the rolled dough onto the tawa. Cook each side for about a minute. Once done, use a pair of tongs to gently hold the Bhakhar and roast the Bhakhar (both sides) directly over heat.

Serve hot.
